Okay, so if you have been following along, you already know how this story starts. My kids loved something from the store. I read the ingredients. I decided I could make it better at home. And here we are again, this time with drinkable yogurt.

My kids were obsessed with Danimals. Absolutely obsessed. They wanted them constantly, and I was buying them constantly, and then one day I flipped the bottle around and looked at the sugar content and the ingredient list, and I thought, nope. I can do better than this. And it turns out I absolutely could and so can you.

Here is the beautiful thing about homemade drinkable yogurt. You control everything. The fruit, the sweetness, the add-ins, the hidden vegetables—yes, I said hidden vegetables, and yes, I am doing it again because it works and nobody notices and I will never stop. You can make any flavor combination your kids love; you can sneak in a handful of spinach, and they will never know; and you can make a big batch at the start of the week and have grab-and-go yogurt drinks ready for every single morning.

This has become such a staple in our house for busy mornings. My kids grab one on the way out the door, and I know they are getting protein, fruit, and yes, secretly, vegetables. That is a mom win of the highest order.

Let’s Make It

Add everything into your blender: Greek yogurt, fruit, milk, and spinach. Blend until completely smooth. And I mean completely smooth; blend it well so there are no traces of spinach visible and no one is the wiser.

Mixing yugort ingredients in a blender

Taste it. If your kids like it a little sweeter, add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup. If it is too thick, add a splash more milk until you hit the consistency you want, thin enough to drink through a straw or straight from a cup.

Pour into individual bottles, squeeze pouches, or small mason jars and refrigerate. These will keep in the fridge for 3 to 4 days so you can absolutely make a big batch at the beginning of the week and have breakfast ready to grab every single morning.

Flavor Combinations to Try

This is where it gets really fun. Whatever fruit you have on hand works beautifully here. Here are some of our favorite combinations:

Strawberry Banana — 1 cup strawberries and 1 banana. A classic for a reason, and the color is gorgeous.
Berry Blast — 1 cup mixed berries and ½ cup blueberries. The deep purple color hides the spinach perfectly.
Mango Pineapple—tropical and bright and absolutely delicious. Kids go crazy for this one.
Peach — fresh or frozen peaches with a little vanilla and honey. Tastes like a peach smoothie in yogurt form.
Blueberries—simple, sweet, and that deep blue color makes it look so fun and vibrant.
Apple Cinnamon — diced apple blended smooth with a pinch of cinnamon. Tastes like fall in a bottle and is incredible.
Raspberry—tart and sweet and a beautiful pink color. One of my personal favorites.

The Hidden Veggie Situation —

Let’s Talk About It

One cup of spinach sounds like a lot. I promise you cannot taste it. The fruit completely takes over the flavor, and the color of your berries will cover any green tint completely. If you are using a lighter-colored fruit like peach or banana and you are worried about the color, just use half a cup of spinach instead of a full cup. You are still getting the nutrition, and nobody will ever know.

And spinach is just the beginning. Here are other vegetables you can sneak in:

  • Cauliflower — steam it, freeze it in cubes, and add a few cubes into the blender. Zero flavor, extra nutrition.
  • Zucchini — same trick. Freeze it in small pieces and blend it right in.
  • Beets—roasted beets add the most beautiful deep pink color and a subtle earthy sweetness. Kids think it looks cool and fun.
  • Carrots—steam them soft and blend them in with mango or peach for a vitamin-packed combination.

Tips From Your Mom Bestie

You can use frozen fruit. Frozen fruit is just as nutritious as fresh; it is usually cheaper; it is always available no matter the season; and it makes the yogurt naturally cold and thick. Keep a variety of frozen fruit in your freezer, and you can make any flavor any time.

Greek yogurt is the move. It has way more protein and way less sugar than regular yogurt, and it blends beautifully smooth. Use plain or vanilla; both work great. Plain gives you more control over the sweetness.

Sweeten naturally. If your kids need it a little sweeter, reach for honey, maple syrup, or a date blended right in. All of those add sweetness without refined sugar.

Store in individual portions. Pour into small mason jars, reusable squeeze pouches, or even small water bottles. Individual portions mean grab-and-go mornings are completely effortless

Make a big batch on Sunday. This takes about 5 minutes to make. Spend 5 minutes on Sunday and you have breakfast drinks ready for the whole week. That is the kind of meal prep that actually changes your morning routine.

Freeze them too! Pour into popsicle molds and freeze for a healthy frozen treat that your kids will think is dessert. You will know it is basically breakfast. Everyone wins.

My kids went from Danimals every day to homemade drinkable yogurt every day, and they have never once complained. Actually, they like mine better now, and that is the best compliment a mom can get.

…And that’s all we did today!
