Homemade Ranch Seasoning Powder

If you just made my homemade ranch dressing (link to that recipe here) then you already know about this seasoning powder. But I wanted to give it its very own post because this little blend deserves more than just a mention at the bottom of a ranch recipe. This seasoning powder is genuinely one of the most useful things I

If you just made my homemade ranch dressing (link to that recipe here) then you already know about this seasoning powder. But I wanted to give it its very own post because this little blend deserves more than just a mention at the bottom of a ranch recipe. This seasoning powder is genuinely one of the most useful things I keep in my pantry and once you make a big jar of it you are going to start finding excuses to put it on everything.
And I mean everything.

The whole idea is simple. Instead of buying those little packets of ranch seasoning from the store every single time you need ranch, and those packets add up by the way, you make one big batch of your own seasoning powder, store it in a jar, and it sits in your pantry ready to go whenever you need it. Need ranch dressing? Two minutes. Need to season some chicken? Grab the jar. Want to add some flavor to roasted vegetables? You already know what to do.

This is one of those pantry staples that once it becomes part of your routine you will wonder how you ever cooked without it. Let’s make a big batch right now.

Let’s Make It

This could not be simpler. Measure everything out, mix it all together in a bowl, and transfer it to a sealed jar or airtight container. That is it. You just made ranch seasoning powder. Store it in your pantry and it will last for months.

Homemade ranch seasoning powder

I like to make a big batch so I always have plenty on hand. Label your jar with the date so you know how fresh it is and give it a little shake before each use to make sure everything is evenly mixed.

What To Use It On

This is where it gets really fun. Yes it makes incredible ranch dressing,  use 4 to 5 tablespoons mixed into your ranch recipe (link here) for that perfect restaurant style flavor. But do not stop there because this seasoning is so much more versatile than just dressing.

Here are some of my favorite ways to use it beyond ranch dressing:

  • Sprinkle it on roasted vegetables before they go in the oven, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, all of it is incredible with this seasoning
  • Season chicken before roasting, grilling, or baking, just rub it right onto the chicken and let it do its thing
  • Mix it into ground beef for burgers or meatballs for an unexpected depth of flavor
  • Stir it into dips, mix it into cream cheese or Greek yogurt for a quick and easy veggie dip
  • Add it to pasta salad for a ranch pasta salad that everyone at the cookout will ask about
  • Season popcorn,  toss freshly popped popcorn with a little butter and this seasoning and thank me later
  • Mix into butter for a compound herb butter that is incredible on bread, corn, or steak
  • Add to soups and stews for a little herby depth
  • Sprinkle on eggs in the morning for a savory herbaceous breakfast

Tips From Your Mom Friend

Make it in bulk. I gave you a big batch recipe for a reason. Make the whole thing, fill a jar, and keep it in your pantry. Having it ready to go means you are never more than two minutes away from homemade ranch dressing and that is a beautiful thing.

Store it in a sealed airtight jar. A mason jar works perfectly. Keep it in a cool dry place away from heat and it will stay fresh and fragrant for months.

Adjust the salt to your taste. If you are using this on things that are already salted you may want to go a little lighter on the salt in the mix. Taste as you go and make it work for your family.

This makes a great gift. Fill a cute little jar, tie a ribbon on it, and attach a card with the ranch dressing recipe. Honestly one of the most thoughtful and useful homemade gifts you can give someone who loves to cook.

One simple mix of herbs and spices and suddenly your pantry just got a whole lot more useful. Make a jar this week and I promise you will be reaching for it constantly

…and that’s all we did today.
